Using the Item Element

Updated July 11, 2026

When to use a plain item

The Item element is the default building block for everything that isn't a vehicle, boat, RV, valuable, or collectible — furniture, electronics, appliances, clothing, tools, and most of what you own.

What you can fill in

  • Name and category
  • Serial number and condition
  • Purchase price and current estimated value
  • Brand, model, and purchase date and location (under "+ More details")

Switching an item's type later

If you start with a plain item and realize it should have been a Vehicle or Collectible, open its full detail view and fill in the relevant special fields directly — you don't need to delete and recreate it with a different Quick Add element.

Keeping it simple

Not every item needs every field filled in. Name, category, and a photo are enough for most items — add price and value where you actually know them, and skip the rest unless it matters for your specific documentation purpose.
