Using the Photo Element
Updated July 11, 2026
Two places a photo can go
The Photo element can attach in two different ways, depending on where you drop it or which thumbnail you click:
- Item photo — drag Photo onto a specific item, or click that item's thumbnail. This is the most common use, and the first photo you add becomes that item's cover thumbnail on its card.
- Room photo — drag Photo onto a room itself (not a specific item), or use the room's own photo option. This documents the room as a whole rather than any single item in it — useful for showing overall condition or context.
Adding more than one item photo
An item can have multiple photos — useful for different angles, or for pairing a photo of the item with a close-up of its serial number. Extra photos appear in a small expandable row below the cover thumbnail.
Room photos vs. floor plans
A room can hold both a room photo and a separate floor plan attachment — see the Room element article for the distinction between the two.
Free vs. Pro
Every photo you attach is saved regardless of plan. On the Free plan, only an item's cover photo (the first one) is included in exports — additional item photos are clearly marked as included with Pro rather than silently dropped.
What makes a useful photo
For items, a clear photo of the item as a whole is the baseline — a second close-up of a visible serial number or maker's mark adds real evidentiary value. For rooms, a wide shot capturing the general layout and condition is usually most useful.
