Getting Started: Building Your First Inventory
Updated July 11, 2026
Starting a new inventory
Open the Builder and you'll see an empty canvas with a sidebar of elements on the left. No account is needed to start — you can build a full inventory, then decide later whether to save it by registering.
Adding your first room
Drag the Room element from the sidebar onto the canvas, or use the "Add Room" button. Give it a real name — "Living Room," "Master Bedroom" — rather than leaving the default placeholder, since this name shows up in your exports.
Adding items to a room
Once a room exists, drag any item element onto it, or use the room's own "Add Item" button. For each item you can fill in:
- Name and category
- Serial number and condition
- Purchase price and current estimated value
- A photo — click the item's thumbnail to attach one
Quick Add templates
For common item types — Vehicles, Boats, RVs, Valuable Items, and Collectibles — the sidebar's Quick Add section pre-fills the relevant fields (like VIN and license plate for a vehicle) and opens the right section automatically, so you don't have to hunt for those fields manually.
Working room by room
The fastest, most complete approach is going through your home one room at a time rather than trying to remember everything at once — living room, then kitchen, then each bedroom. It's both faster and far less likely to leave gaps.
