Attaching Photos, Receipts, and Warranty Documents

Updated July 11, 2026

Four types of attachments

Each item supports four distinct kinds of files, each with its own purpose:

  • Photo — a picture of the item itself. The first photo you attach becomes the item's cover thumbnail.
  • Receipt — proof of purchase, useful for confirming value in a claim.
  • Warranty Document — a Pro feature, for tracking warranty coverage on higher-value items.
  • Appraisal Document — also Pro, for items with a formal appraisal (jewelry, art, collectibles).

All four attach at the item level — a room itself can only hold a room photo and a floor plan, covered in the Room element article.

How to attach one

Click the small "+" icon on an item's thumbnail to open the attach menu, or click the thumbnail itself to open the full photo manager. From there you can choose which type of file you're adding and upload it directly.

Multiple photos per item

You can attach more than one photo to a single item — useful for showing an item from multiple angles, or including both the item and its serial number in separate shots. On the Free plan, only the first photo is included in exports; Pro includes every photo you've attached.

A tip on what to photograph

A clear photo showing the item's visible serial number or model tag is often more useful for a claim than a written description alone — it's harder to dispute and easier for an adjuster to verify.
